Together For Short Lives

Trust Fundraising Support

The Brief:

With the resignation of a long-standing trust fundraising officer, Together for Short Lives needed urgent support for their emergency cost-of-living appeal. The rest of the team was at capacity and couldn’t take this appeal on as well. Additional support was needed for this appeal and other trust fundraising activities until they were able to recruit to the post early in the new year. Having worked previously with Money Tree Fundraising for interim support, Together for Short Lives contacted us for a quick response.

Action Taken:

After a short time spent learning about the organisation and its projects and programmes, Helen (the MTF Trust Fundraising Associate) stepped right into preparing applications for submission. Mid-way through the contract she switched project focus as the initial appeal was completed. The contract was extended to accommodate the start date of the new post-holder.7

Difference Made:

Recruiting for a new trust fundraiser took longer than anticipated and there wasn’t the extra capacity available within the team to ensure the small trust programme didn’t lose momentum whilst waiting for the post to be filled.

The benefit of the work wasn’t solely financial for Together For Short Lives – Helen also helped with some reports and took pressure off the Head of Trusts and Foundations to be able to progress with strategic work. Through CoL and work with a prospect this has now led on to a relationship worth £500k.

Financial Results:

Two bids were successful (so far), Squire Patton Boggs Charitable Trust (£500) and Hadrian Trust (£1,000).

Income Realised £1500

“Helen has been fantastic. And I honestly can’t stress enough just how brilliant Helen has been. She’s taken the pressure off quite considerably and it’s been fantastic to know there’s someone so capable there to help. Nothing further to add other than I found Helen to be really knowledgeable and proactive. She needed minimal support from me and given it was a short contract she achieved a huge amount – contacting potential funders/following up and providing me with the information to take conversations further. Very organised and a great source of support.”
