Trust Fundraising Review

The Brief:

A relatively new charity supporting development work in Ghana, Dream Big Ghana Foundation (DBGF) is run by a volunteer board of trustees and have no paid staff. Up until now, their few fundraising efforts have been focused primarily on entertainment events local to the trustees with varying levels of success. However, DBGF has received a multi-year grant to help put then on a firmer footing administratively. So they can grow and are now looking to develop their fundraising options for now and for the future.

Action Taken:

Using Money Tree Fundraising’s foundation module, a part of our Trusts Kick Start programme, Deanna guided the DBGF team through the integral governance, financial and project information they would need to be able to successfully raise money from trusts as they grow. Our tailored hands-on coaching approach meant that the Dream Big Ghana Foundation team could seek advice and ask questions that linked the basics to their situation and capacity they currently have.

Difference Made:

Whilst DBGF’s collective expertise focuses on the work of their charity, they just didn’t have the fundraising knowledge in their board. Working with Money Tree has improved DBGF’s knowledge and provided them with a sounding board as they develop policies, strategies, and expectations for fundraising.  Dream Big Ghana has integrated what they have learned and have been able to identify where they need to add specialist fundraising support to make best use of their resources.

Results:

Dream Big Ghana Foundation has submitted an initial application to a major international development funder and have learned first-hand what the process involves regarding time, information, and the development of appropriate content for applications. DBGF has a better understanding of charitable fundraising and how it pertains to them as well as the level of involvement that they will need to invest. Thanks to the training and support received from Money Tree Fundraising, DBGF has been confidently drafting their organisational and fundraising strategies for the coming years.
